Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has officially extended his tenure with McLaren, signing a new deal that keeps him with the team until at least 2030. The agreement, announced on Saturday, also includes a multi-year option for the 26-year-old British driver to remain with the organization beyond that date. As a unique component of the contract, Norris will be gifted one of the vehicles he piloted during his successful 2025 championship campaign.
Since making his debut with the team in 2019, Norris has established himself as a cornerstone of the McLaren lineup, recording 13 race victories, 18 pole positions, and 48 podium finishes. Reflecting on the extension, Norris stated, “McLaren is my home, and I’m very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030.” He noted that his primary goal nine years ago was to return the team to the front of the grid and secure championships. Having achieved those milestones, he emphasized that the team remains hungry for further success and is fully capable of maintaining its competitive edge.
Team principal Andrea Stella praised the driver’s contributions, stating, “Lando has been an integral part of McLaren’s journey and success over the last nine years, and we are delighted to continue our partnership with him through to at least 2030.” Stella further described Norris as an exceptional talent who balances natural speed with maturity and consistency, highlighting his value as both a driver and a person within the team structure.
Currently, Norris holds fourth place in the driver standings after 12 events, trailing Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli by 83 points, though he enters the next phase of the season with momentum after winning the last two races. Looking ahead, the driver expressed his eagerness to return to the track at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza on September 6, noting his excitement for both the remainder of the current season and the years to come.
