Samuel Eto’o Faces Probe Over Alleged Russia Payment Scandal

The Association of Amateur Football Clubs of Cameroon (ACFAC) has demanded an official investigation into national football federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o following media reports of corruption. Eto’o is accused of improperly obtaining a payment from the Russian Football Union linked to a friendly international match played between Cameroon and Russia in October 2023.

Contract Violations and Legal Threat

ACFAC alleges that the Russian Football Union breached its contract with FECAFOOT by transferring roughly 567,000 euros ($655,000) into a bank account that did not belong to the Cameroonian federation. Consequently, the amateur association has declared its intention to launch two legal actions

  • A lawsuit against former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward Eto’o in the courts of Cameroon.
  • A separate legal complaint filed in Russia targeting the Russian Football Union.

The scandal emerges shortly after Eto’o defended embattled FIFA President Gianni Infantino last month. Eto’o declared Infantino ’hasn’t done anything wrong’ despite intense pressure on the global chief to resign over a controversial World Cup sell-off plan.
