The Bangladesh women’s cricket team is set to face India in the semi-finals of the Asian Games, rekindling a rivalry shortly after their encounter in the Asia Cup. Bangladesh advanced to the final four based on tournament bylaws after their quarter-final match against China was abandoned due to rain last Thursday.
India secured their semi-final berth with a dominant performance against hosts Japan at the Korgi Sports Park on Friday. After winning the toss and electing to field, India bowled Japan out for just 57 runs. Sri Charani spearheaded the bowling attack with four wickets, supported by Shafali Verma, who claimed two. India chased the target with ease, winning by eight wickets in just 5.3 overs. Shafali played a blistering, unbeaten innings of 40 off 15 balls, while Richa Ghosh sealed the victory with an undefeated 12 off six deliveries.
Led by captain Nigar Sultana, the Bangladesh side will now prepare to challenge Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian team for a place in the final. The highly anticipated semi-final match is scheduled for September 20 and will commence at 11:00 AM Bangladesh time.
