Since its inception in 2015, the Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club has implemented a comprehensive strategy designed to discover promising talent, cultivate elite athletes for UAE national squads, and cultivate a robust sporting culture. Under the leadership of Chairman Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, the organization maintains primary training facilities in Industrial Area 18 and Al Rahmaniya, while extending its reach through various sessions hosted in public parks across Kshisha, Al Nasseriya, Al Majaz, and Al Nouf.
The club’s commitment to excellence was evident during the 2025-2026 season, where it secured a total of 1,280 medals. This impressive tally included 396 gold, 424 silver, and 460 bronze awards. Breaking down the success by discipline, athletes earned 663 medals in jiu-jitsu, 327 in taekwondo, 225 in judo, and 65 in wrestling. Such high-level performance is further solidified by the selection of several club members to represent the UAE national teams across these disciplines, alongside karate.
To foster community engagement, the organization manages the seven-year-old initiative titled “Our Sports Culture.” This program utilizes workshops and lectures to raise sports awareness among the public, including specific activities tailored for parents and senior citizens. By collaborating with various educational institutions, the club actively scouts for rising talent and facilitates knowledge exchange through partnerships for international training camps.
Vice Chairman Obaid Al Asam Al Suwaidi noted that the club operates according to the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which prioritizes ethical development and sportsmanship alongside physical success. The club continues to upgrade its performance metrics by integrating modern data and technology. Director of Sports Affairs Humaid Sabt Al Shamsi emphasized that their strategy remains anchored in long-term athletic growth. Recent competitive milestones underscore this success, including winning the overall men’s taekwondo title, the UAE Wrestling Federation Cup, and claiming the top spot in the no-gi category at the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship for the third year in a row. The report also notes that using data and modern technologies, expanding partnerships and strengthening national expertise to enhance its standing locally and internationally, he added that the club is developing its performance systems.
