A monumental all-British heavyweight clash has been officially scheduled as Tyson Fury prepares to enter the ring against Anthony Joshua in Cardiff on December 11. The highly anticipated bout, which stands as one of the most significant moments in the history of British boxing, will be broadcast globally on the streaming platform Netflix.
Although initial discussions linked the matchup to major venues in London and New York, promoters ultimately selected the Welsh capital’s Principality Stadium. Saudi Arabian boxing influential figure Turki Alalshikh confirmed the location and date on Thursday following months of turbulent negotiations. The talks had previously been jeopardized when the 37-year-old Fury pushed for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.
On social media, Alalshikh highlighted the historic nature of the agreement, stating, “For 15 years no one has been able to make this fight.” He added, “Back in April, I said that any announcement would come from me. I can now confirm that Fury Vs Joshua will be coming to the UK, as I promised British boxing fans. The time for talking is over…”
By securing the 80,000-capacity arena, which has previously hosted Champions League and FA Cup finals alongside Welsh rugby and football internationals, both camps can officially begin their training camps. Fury returns to action after defeating 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in Thailand this past July, while the 36-year-old Joshua seeks to build on a July victory over Kristian Prenga, a fight in which Joshua overcame two first-round knockdowns. The report also notes that choosing the 80,000-capacity stadium in Cardiff, which has hosted the Champions League and FA Cup finals, as well as Wales national team matches in football and rugby, allows both fighters to finally start their preparat.
