South Africa clinched their ODI series against Australia after securing a 32-run victory at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Despite a massive first-innings total, the hosts faced immense pressure early on due to an aggressive start from the Australian openers. However, disciplined bowling late in the game ensured the Proteas defended their target successfully.
Sent in to bat after losing the toss, South Africa initially struggled but recovered behind a masterful century from captain Temba Bavuma, who scored 103 runs off 116 balls. Following his departure, David Miller took control, hitting a blistering 143 runs from 93 balls. His destructive innings featured 12 boundaries and nine sixes, with Miller reaching his personal century in just 73 balls. Supported by Duan Jansen’s unbeaten 27 and Marco Jansen’s 19, the Proteas finished their allotted 50 overs at 365 for nine. Australia’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Jack Edwards, who claimed five wickets, and Josh Hazlewood, who added three.
Australia responded with a fierce chase. Captain Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head built a rapid 130-run partnership in just 17 overs, with both players contributing 84 runs before being dismissed. Xavier Bartlett briefly threatened to tilt the game in Australia’s favor by scoring a half-century off just 28 deliveries, while Matt Renshaw and Jack Edwards added 32 and 25 runs respectively. Despite the middle-order resistance, the Australian tail could not withstand the pressure.
The visitors were eventually bundled out for 333 runs in 49.4 overs. Lizaad Williams was the standout performer for the South African bowling attack, claiming three wickets, while Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, and Bjorn Fortuin each chipped in with two scalps to seal the series win.
