Everton’s US Owners The Friedkin Group Open to Selling

Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), announced on Friday that they are open to selling a controlling stake in the Premier League club as part of efforts to attract new investment. The decision comes less than two years after the US-based group acquired Everton from former owner Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, taking control of a club then grappling with financial difficulties and prolonged instability.

Financial Stabilization and Stadium Completion

Since the takeover, TFG has overseen Everton’s move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium and worked to stabilize the club’s financial position. In an official statement, the owners stated: “When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch.” They noted that their immediate priority was providing the stability, investment, and support required to secure Everton’s future and complete the new venue.

Future Investment and Strategic Review

Reflecting on the progress made, TFG added: “With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton.” The group emphasized it will only evaluate proposals from parties capable of building upon recent advancements, confirming it will maintain support for the team on and off the field throughout the evaluation.

Fan Criticism and Financial Advisors

The decision follows a summer transfer window that drew criticism from supporters, according to British media reports, as the club generated substantial revenue from player sales while making limited squad additions. TFG, which also owns Italian side AS Roma and French club AS Cannes, has hired investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the sale process. Both Everton and TFG stated no further comments will be made while the review remains ongoing.
