The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has unveiled a significantly expanded roster of centrally contracted players for the 2026-27 cycle. Announced on October 12, the new structure includes 30 central contracts and nine development deals, bringing the total number of contracted men’s players to 39, up from 30 during the previous season. Ollie Robinson, who last held a central deal in 2023, has earned a recall following a productive summer of performances. Who last held a central contract in 2023, returns to a list that has grown from 30 contracted men’s players across both central and development categories in 2025-26 to 39 for the upcoming seaso, the 32-year-old Robinson. With selections based on players’ prospects of featuring across formats in the coming period as well as their performances over the past year, the contract system covers both red-ball and white-ball cricket.

First-time recipients of central contracts include Tom Banton, Sam Cook, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Emilio Gay, Matthew Fisher, and Dan Lawrence. Sonny Baker has seen his agreement upgraded to a two-year term, with Cox and Crocombe also securing two-year deals. Among the full list, 11 players have committed to terms that run until September 30, 2028. Conversely, former Test captain Ben Stokes is absent from this year’s list following his retirement from international cricket earlier this year.

The development contract list features six new additions: James Coles, Mason Crane, Ben McKinney, Liam Patterson-White, Thomas Rew, and Matthew Revis. Notably, 18-year-old Thomas Rew, who captained England at the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year, becomes the youngest player in the development group. Mason Crane’s inclusion coincides with his upcoming return to an England squad, marking his first such involvement in over eight years. Crane’s selection comes in the same week that he is set to join an England squad for the first time in more than eight years.

England has also overhauled its national coaching infrastructure. Mike Yardy has been named the Elite National Batting Lead, while Richard Dawson transitions to Elite National Spin Bowling Lead. Troy Cooley continues his tenure as the Elite National Pace Bowling Lead. For the upcoming Test tour of South Africa, head coach Stephen Fleming will rely on a support team comprising Dawson, Marcus Trescothick, James Foster, and Eric Simons. Brendon McCullum’s white-ball coaching setup for the tour of Australia includes Sarah Taylor, Jeetan Patel, and Tim Southee, with Kevin Pietersen serving as a specialist mentor.

The central contract list for 2026-27 includes: Joe Root, Harry Brook, Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Emilio Gay, Matthew Fisher, Will Jacks, Dan Lawrence, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Ollie Robinson, Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, and Josh Tongue.
