Kimi Antonelli has etched his name into the record books, becoming the youngest world champion in the history of Formula 1 following his triumphant performance in Mexico. His achievement was immediately validated by the sport’s most decorated figures, as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton joined him on the podium to celebrate the milestone.

Reflecting on the shared podium with two titans of the grid, Antonelli expressed his pride: “I will definitely frame the picture and put it in my house because it’s just an incredible moment. To see so much respect from two incredible drivers who have done the history of the sport is truly special and a moment that will always be remembered.” The sentiment was mutual, with both Hamilton and Verstappen describing his title-winning drive simply as “incredible.” Too, that Antonelli shared the Mexico City Grand Prix podium with these two titans meant something. So, too, though, for its symbolism.

The scale of Antonelli’s performance this year suggests he is poised to join the ranks of F1’s all-time greats. Commentating for Radio 5 Live, 1996 world champion Damon Hill emphasized the potential of the new star. “There are going to be others,” Hill noted regarding future successes for the Mercedes driver. “I don’t see anything else other than him getting better and better. He’s going to have to go through hard times as well, but no one is going to doubt his incredible talent.”

For the sport, the sight of the seasoned champions holding the young driver aloft was highly symbolic. As the newest name added to the elite list of world title-holders, Antonelli has effectively silenced any remaining skeptics, establishing himself as a formidable force on the current grid.
