Towhid Hridoy has officially claimed the record for the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi cricketer in international play. He surpassed the previous benchmark set by Mushfiqur Rahim, who remained unbeaten on 219 against Zimbabwe in Mirpur back in 2018—a record that stood as the highest score for eight years.
Hridoy reached this historic milestone during the first innings of the Sylhet Test against the West Indies. He currently remains unbeaten on 223, helping Bangladesh reach a total of 356 for 9 at the time of reporting. This tally now levels the score between the two sides after the West Indies completed their own first innings with 356 runs earlier in the match.
The innings was a display of resilience, as Hridoy navigated through immense pressure to secure his maiden double century. He reached the 200-run mark off 304 balls, anchoring his display with 19 boundaries and 7 sixes. By maintaining his composure in difficult conditions, Hridoy has etched his name into the annals of Bangladesh’s cricketing history.
With this performance, Hridoy joins the elite company of Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, and Shakib Al Hasan as the only Bangladeshi batters to reach a double century in the Test format. While Mushfiqur has achieved three, and both Tamim and Shakib have one each, Hridoy’s knock marks the sixth double century for the nation. Furthermore, this innings stands as the highest individual score by any Bangladeshi against the West Indies, eclipsing Mominul Haque’s 115 from 2021.
The match saw Bangladesh in a precarious position early on, but Hridoy’s steady hand provided a necessary lifeline for the hosts. His efforts follow a strong bowling display from Hasan Mahmud, who earlier claimed 6 wickets for 90 runs to restrict the West Indies.
