Musetti, a former world number five who previously reached the US Open quarter-finals, demonstrated the clinical precision required to compete at the elite level. Having been sidelined from the previous two major tournaments due to a thigh injury, the Italian showcased his return to form by controlling the match against the debutant. Fery acknowledged the difficulty of the draw, noting that facing an opponent of Musetti’s pedigree highlighted the slim margins at the top of the ATP Tour.
Reflecting on his performance, Fery admitted that his service game was a significant liability. “My serve really let me down today, which is not usually the case, but I’ve been struggling a little bit to find my rhythm,” he explained. The British player remains focused on his development, stating that the experience provided him with a clear understanding of the adjustments necessary to compete against the world’s leading players. “I know what I have to work on,” Fery added. “I got a lot of ideas coming straight off the court of what I have to work on to do better.” The report also notes that the surprise Wimbledon semi-finalist was unable to repeat his heroics at the All England Club as Musetti proved too strong in New York.
