Bangladesh Women’s Football Team Arrives in Japan for Asian Games

The Bangladesh women’s football team has arrived in host nation Japan ahead of the upcoming Asian Games. The event is scheduled to officially commence in Aichi-Nagoya on September 19, but Ritu Porna Chakma and her teammates are set to take the field for their opening match on September 14, five days prior to the opening ceremony.

Travel and Preparation

Following a training camp in Guangzhou, China, lasting over a week, the squad departed for Nagoya on Friday morning, arriving at the local airport at 9:00 PM. The team remained in Nagoya to finalize the activation of their official tournament accreditation cards before traveling by bus to Osaka, the designated host city for women’s football matches.

Squad Update and History

  • Player Nabiron Khatun sustained an injury during a preparation match in Guangzhou, ruling her out of the tournament. She traveled to Japan with the team, but the Bangladesh Football Federation is currently working to fly a replacement player from Dhaka.
  • Bangladesh has participated in the Asian Games since 1978. While men’s football teams competed in previous editions, the men’s squad did not qualify this year.
