FIFA has imposed a 15-match suspension on Bangladeshi footballer Al-Amin following a violent brawl that erupted during a four-nation tournament held in the Maldives last June. According to sources within the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), the global governing body notified the federation of the disciplinary action just a few days ago. While the penalty is significant, the player retains the right to appeal the decision.
The incident occurred on June 7 during a match between the Bangladesh Olympic team and the hosts, held as part of the Diamond Jubilee Football Tournament celebrating 75 years of Maldivian football. The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, descended into chaos following a collision between Bangladesh’s Piyas Ahmed and Maldives player Hassan Inaz. When referee Sekaran Senthilnathan awarded a free-kick to the Maldives, the decision sparked immediate outrage among the Bangladeshi players. The game was marred by persistent tension over officiating, eventually escalating into a physical confrontation between the two squads. Both Al-Amin and Mirajul Islam were issued red cards during the match.
This suspension marks a major setback for the young striker, who has made only two appearances for the Bangladesh national team and has previously represented the country at various age-group levels. Al-Amin’s history with disciplinary issues includes a prior one-year ban for match-fixing, which occurred during the 2020-21 Premier Football League season while he was playing for Arambagh. Now, facing a fresh and severe penalty for his conduct in the Maldives, his international career faces another significant hurdle.
