Kimi Antonelli fell just short of sealing his maiden world title despite delivering a masterclass performance to win the United States Grand Prix. The 20-year-old Italian dominated the race at the Circuit of the Americas from the opening corner, leaving his rivals to contend with one another behind him. This victory marks his ninth win across the 18 races held this season. His first since the Spanish Grand Prix last month, antonelli’s sublime victory.
Crossing the finish line ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Antonelli has extended his lead over Mercedes team-mate George Russell to 123 points. While the championship remains mathematically open, the young driver is poised to claim the crown at the upcoming Mexico City race next weekend.
To secure the championship title, Antonelli must avoid losing more than 23 points to Russell or more than 24 to Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton.
Specifically, a ninth-place finish would guarantee his victory even if Russell wins the race, while a 10th-place result would suffice should Hamilton take the win. If neither rival achieves a victory, Antonelli will be crowned champion next Sunday regardless of his final position.
