Former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma is poised to begin a new chapter with the Chennai Super Kings franchise by stepping into the position of bowling coach. At thirty-eight years of age, the experienced campaigner will succeed Eric Simmons, who previously held the responsibility during the tenure of former head coach Stephen Fleming. Who has formerly played four seasons for CSK, will take over the role from Eric Simmons, who served in that role under former head coach Stephen Fleming, the 38-year-old.
Transitioning Under Zaheer Khan
According to reports from, Sharma is prepared to finalize his contract, making him the initial addition to the coaching unit assembled by newly-appointed head coach Zaheer Khan. Chief Executive Officer Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to that the former left-arm fast bowler is actively shaping his backroom team. “Zaheer is in the process of finalising the support staff. He seems to have zeroed in on Mohit for the bowling coach role. That is my understanding,” Viswanathan stated regarding the ongoing appointments.
Playing Career and Franchise History
Sharma wrapped up his professional playing career in December of last year after featuring in the lucrative T20 league as recently as the 2025 season. Beyond his domestic exploits, he represented India across eight Twenty20 Internationals. During his playing days, the right-arm bowler made forty-eight appearances for the Chennai-based franchise in the marquee tournament, supplemented by ten additional outings across two editions of the discontinued Champions League T20 tournament.
Upcoming Staffing Decisions and Franchise Context
While the bowling department is nearing completion, franchise officials and the newly-appointed head coach have yet to lock in their choice for the batting coach position heading into the 2027 season. Michael Hussey had previously shouldered batting responsibilities until recently and was also considered a contender for the top coaching job. Internal discussions currently involve three or four candidates, with a definitive choice remaining pending.
