With two-thirds of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) already completed, teams were turning their focus to the final stages. However, escalating tensions between India and Pakistan have now spilt into the tournament itself. A recent drone strike — reportedly from India — landed near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, one of the league’s main venues, triggering widespread security concerns across the PSL.

In light of the situation, rumours are growing that the remainder of the tournament could either be postponed or relocated abroad. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering moving the tournament to either Dubai in the UAE or Doha in Qatar due to the ongoing geopolitical instability. Thursday’s match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi was already postponed after the drone incident near the stadium.

A PCB spokesperson confirmed the developments, stating: “The PCB is closely monitoring the situation, and there may be a revised schedule for the PSL. Final decisions will be communicated once confirmed.”

On the issue of international players, the spokesperson added: “All airports in Pakistan are currently shut due to the drone strikes. No final decision has yet been made regarding the foreign players.”

According to Pakistani media outlet Geo News, the PCB convened an emergency meeting with PSL franchise owners on Thursday afternoon at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The meeting also addressed broader security implications, including the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, and how to avoid potential disruptions.

So far, 26 matches of the PSL league stage have been completed. Only four league matches remain before the playoffs begin on May 13, culminating in the final on May 18. Whether the remaining 10 matches will be held in Pakistan or relocated depends largely on logistical capabilities.

Adding to the uncertainty, Indian broadcasters Sony and FanCode have already suspended their coverage of the PSL due to the heightened tensions between the two nations.
