Emerging mystery spinner Rubel Mia has secured his maiden opportunity to play in an overseas franchise cricket tournament. His standout performances with the ball in the recent Top End T20 League have paved the way for this international debut, where he is set to join the Pokhara Avengers for the third season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
With this signing, Rubel becomes the fifth Bangladeshi cricketer to be recruited for the current NPL campaign. He will be playing alongside seasoned star Shakib Al Hasan, who is also part of the Pokhara Avengers squad. Other Bangladeshi players participating in the league include Akbar Ali and Ariful Islam, both representing the Karnali Yaks, and Zishan Alam, who has signed with the Biratnagar Kings.
For Rubel, the NPL represents a significant career milestone and a prime opportunity to test his skills on a broader stage. Known primarily for his spin variations in the domestic circuit, he has maintained consistent form since his showing in the National Cricket League T20s. Having already made his mark in the BPL and the Dhaka Premier League, the spinner further solidified his reputation by finishing as the highest wicket-taker during his stint with the Bangladesh A team in Australia’s Top End T20 tournament.
