The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), under the leadership of President Tamim Iqbal, recently announced a decision to double the salaries and honorariums for all levels of cricketers. While this move has been welcomed, it has prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association to advocate for their own financial adjustment. On Saturday, the association formally submitted an application to the BCB president, requesting a pay increase for match officials who have historically felt overlooked during such salary revisions.
In the formal letter, signed by Association President Kazi Yusa Mishu, the organization expressed its appreciation for the board’s recent announcement, which was made during a press conference last Thursday. The association extended its gratitude to Tamim Iqbal and the board’s directors, noting that the salary hike for players is a positive step that will likely boost morale and performance. However, the letter emphasized that umpires, scorers, and match referees are essential stakeholders in the sport, just as the players are. Consequently, the association has urged the board to provide a corresponding increase in pay for all currently active match officials, ensuring that those responsible for officiating the game are also fairly compensated for their contributions.
