Nottingham Forest have officially confirmed the signing of Colombian right-back Daniel Muñoz, who joins the club on a three-year contract that includes an option for an additional season. The 30-year-old moves to the City Ground following a highly successful tenure at Crystal Palace, where he established himself as a key figure after arriving from Belgian side Genk in January 2024.
During his time at Selhurst Park, Muñoz played a pivotal role in the club’s recent success. He was instrumental in their historic 2024/25 FA Cup triumph, providing the assist for the decisive goal in a 1-0 final victory over Manchester City and earning Player of the Match honors. His standout performances throughout that campaign also secured him the club’s Player of the Season award, and he later helped the team lift the Community Shield. Last season, he maintained his high standards by recording four goals and three assists in 29 Premier League appearances, while also featuring 46 times across all competitions as Palace claimed the UEFA Conference League trophy.
Before his transition to English football, Muñoz spent nearly four years with Genk, having joined the Belgian club in 2020. The attack-minded defender made 122 appearances for the side, scoring 16 goals and contributing to their 2021 Belgian Cup victory. His professional journey began in his native Colombia, where he debuted for Águilas Doradas in 2017 before moving to Atlético Nacional in 2019.
On the international stage, Muñoz has earned 51 caps for Colombia since his 2021 debut. He has represented his nation at two Copa América tournaments and was a member of the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His arrival provides a significant boost to the squad managed by Oliver Glasner.
Reflecting on his move, Muñoz expressed his enthusiasm for the project at Forest, citing the team’s talent and competitive ambition. He noted that the club’s winning mentality, from management down to the players, was a primary factor in his decision. He highlighted the club’s recent progress, including their run to the Europa League semi-finals, as evidence of their high objectives for the future.
“I’m really excited because I can see so much talent; Forest is a team with great players, qualities, and skills on the pitch,” Muñoz said upon signing. “It is a club that has fought and competed hard in recent years, and I think it has even greater objectives for the future.
