The 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will go ahead as scheduled despite escalating military tensions with India. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed its commitment to continue the tournament amid the ongoing crisis.
Reports suggest that India has carried out more than 20 strikes across six Pakistani cities in recent days. In response, Pakistan claimed its air force destroyed five Indian fighter jets, including a Rafale, in retaliatory action.
Despite this volatile situation, yesterday’s (May 7) match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators will take place in Rawalpindi as originally planned. Four matches are set to be held in Rawalpindi between May 7 and 10, with the final group-stage game scheduled in Multan on May 11.
The playoffs will begin on May 13, starting with the qualifier in Rawalpindi. The eliminator and final matches will be played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on May 14, 16, and 18 respectively.
PCB’s decision to continue with the PSL is seen as a reflection of the country’s determination to uphold sporting activities even during a national crisis.
Two Bangladeshi players are participating in this year’s tournament—leg-spinner Rishad Hossain for Lahore Qalandars and pacer Nahid Rana for Peshawar Zalmi.
In a statement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said, “The Board is closely monitoring the evolving security situation over the past 24 hours. We are maintaining regular contact with Rishad and Nahid, who are currently participating in the PSL.”
BCB President Faruque Ahmed has personally spoken to PSL CEO Salman Naseer and Rishad Hossain to ensure the players’ safety and mental well-being.
