England Pacer Kate Cross Announces Retirement After 15-Year Professional Career

England fast bowler Kate Cross has confirmed she will retire from professional cricket at the conclusion of the current English summer. The 34-year-old, who has not represented England since losing her ECB central contract last September, ends her international tenure with 102 appearances across all formats. Her career statistics include 101 wickets in 76 ODIs, 25 wickets from eight Test matches, and 14 wickets in 18 T20Is.

Reflecting on her decision via Instagram, Cross noted that while it is difficult to step away from the sport that defined her life, she feels the final chapter is approaching. Her deep-rooted connection to Lancashire spans nearly two decades, beginning when she joined the county’s junior ranks at age 13. She later became the first female player admitted to the Lancashire Academy and made her senior debut for the county in 2005.

Cross’s international journey began with a 2011 Ashes call-up, leading to her debut in 2013. She made an immediate impression during that tour against the West Indies, earning Player of the Match honors for a 4/51 performance in an ODI. Her Test debut in the 2014 Ashes at Perth saw her take three wickets in each innings, while her career-best international figures of 5/24 were achieved against New Zealand in Lincoln in 2015.

Beyond her international and county commitments, Cross played for the Brisbane Heat in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League and was a foundational member of the Lancashire Thunder setup. She received an ECB central contract in 2019 and served as captain for the Manchester Originals in The Hundred. After recently competing for Sunrisers Leeds, she will spend her final weeks with Lancashire.

Expressing gratitude for her career, Cross stated, “I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to play the game I love professionally and get to do it at the highest level. I’m even more fortunate to have met the people I have along the way. I have memories that will last a lifetime which I’ll forever be thankful for.” The report also notes that bringing the curtain down on a 15-year international career in which she made 102 appearances across, england pacer Kate Cross has announced that she will retire from professional cricket at the end of the English summer. The report also notes that “It’s incredibly hard to imagine ever saying goodbye to playing the sport that has been such a huge part of my life and shaped me into the person I am today. The report also notes that taking 4/51 in Barbados to win the Player of the Match award, she made her T20I bow against West Indies and followed it with her ODI debut on the same tour.
