Bangladeshi football fans have long followed the journeys of Hamza Choudhury and Samit Som with anticipation. Hamza made his long-awaited debut for Bangladesh this past March. Now, the spotlight turns to Samit Som, the Canadian league midfielder, as he prepares to don the national colours.
Samit quickly secured his Bangladeshi passport and received the green light from the Canadian Football Federation. With FIFA’s clearance now officially in hand, all that remains is his appearance on the field. If all goes according to plan, Samit is expected to make his debut for Bangladesh on June 10.
Reflecting on his journey, Samit acknowledged the fans whose support helped pave the way for his national team opportunity.
In a video message shared by the Bangladesh Football Federation’s official Facebook page, Samit said:
“I’m incredibly excited to represent Bangladesh at the international level. Thank you to everyone for your amazing support, and to those who helped expedite the process and made this dream a reality.”
Bangladesh will face Singapore at home on June 10 in an AFC Asian Cup Qualifier, where Samit is likely to make his first appearance. That same match is also set to be Hamza Choudhury’s home debut for the national team.
