A bomb threat was sent via email this morning targeting the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, India. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) confirmed receiving the threat and immediately informed the Delhi Police, according to Indian media outlet The Times of India.
A senior DDCA official stated, “Yes, we received a threat email this morning and have already forwarded it to the Delhi Police. They acted promptly and have just inspected the venue.”
The Arun Jaitley Stadium is the home ground of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals. A match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans was scheduled to take place there on May 11. However, with the IPL now suspended for a week, that match will not proceed as planned.
The suspension was officially announced Friday afternoon in light of rising military tensions between India and Pakistan. BCCI President Debojit Saikia issued a statement confirming that the remainder of the TATA IPL 2025 has been postponed for one week.
He said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to temporarily suspend the remaining matches of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 for one week. After a full assessment of the situation and consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders, a revised schedule and venues will be announced.”
Tensions between the two nations escalated following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. In retaliation, India launched strikes late Tuesday night on at least nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan responded with counterattacks along the Line of Control, heightening the situation.
On Thursday, during a missile exchange between the two countries, the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned mid-first innings. Due to the closure of airports near Dharamshala, players and staff travelled by bus to Jalandhar and then took a train to Delhi. One day after that disruption, the tournament suspension was made official.
